Off Your Rocker? Page 2
I look at him confused, but for some reason my crying subsides. “Okay,” I say sheepishly.
He nods his head, rests his ankle on his other knee and leans back into the lounge. Wow, if I wasn’t broken-hearted and if I had no inhibitions, the things I’d do to this stranger beside me are totally out of character for me, but it doesn’t stop me from thinking them. I clench my thighs together and bite my lip.
“So if I’m going to sit here with you instead of getting the sleep I so desperately need, you’d better start talking,” he states with a smirk.
“Okay, well we had dinner at a nice restaurant and then we came home and he sat me down on the lounge and told me with absolutely no emotion that he didn’t, and never has loved me, and that I’m moving out tonight and he’s keeping Princess Sophia. Then he packed my bags and now I’m here, drinking my life away and talking to some hot guy I don’t even know.”
Oh, shit did I just say that last bit out loud?
He smiles and he even looks a little embarrassed.
Yep, I said it out loud.
“Um thanks, what’s a Princess Sophia?”
I laugh out loud, well it’s more of a snort. I shoot my hand up to my mouth.
What’s wrong with me?
He smirks like he’s enjoying himself and having a great time at my expense.
“Sorry, must be the vodka.” A little girlish giggle escapes my lips.
Get a hold of yourself Delia Norman, you’re acting like a right git!
“It’s okay I get the whole broken heart, vodka thing. Been there, drunk that,” he says and I laugh.
“So what is it?”
“What’s what?” I ask, slightly confused.
“What’s a Princess Sophia?” I laugh again and he’s looking at me with his eyes wide and a smirk across his face. He must think I’m an imbecile.
“She’s not a what, she’s my Yorkiepoo.”
“Um, I don’t want to know anything about any kind of shit thanks,” he says screwing up his nose.
“Don’t be daft! She’s my Yorkie crossed Poodle. She’s a dog.”
He raises an eyebrow, smiles and then nods his head. “That’s good because I was thinking you might’ve been off your rocker talking about your poo like that. Not that I mind, I mean we all have the same bodily functions, it’s that I only just met you and talking about shit is kinda not on my list of things to do tonight.”
I laugh and shake my head at him. “I’m, off my what now?”
He grins. “Off your rocker.”
“What does that mean?”
“You’re crazy, insane, not of sound mind, mentally incapable of being normal, you know you’re off your rocker.”
“Right, thanks for that,” I say with a smirk. I bring my feet up on the edge of the lounge and cradle myself. “Maybe I am, though.”
“Why?”
“Joseph always told me that I’m plain and boring and that I never looked pretty enough. He said I was never spontaneous and that I was too stuck up to be any kind of exciting. Maybe I am boring and dull, maybe I deserve to be alone.”
“I don’t think anyone deserves to be alone and I’m with you, so technically you’re not alone,” he says resting his hand on my knee. That intense fire starts to burn up my leg and into the apex of my thighs.
“Why don’t you do something spontaneous then, prove him wrong.”
“Like what?”
“I dunno, have you ever been to a rock concert?”
I shake my head. “No way, Daddy would never let me go to one of those. They’re full of drug lords and people who worship the devil and stuff.”
He laughs, I mean really laughs. “Okay, seriously, are you off your rocker?”
“No, I’m not crazy!”
“Well for starters, yes I guess there are some druggies at rock concerts, but I’m not one of them and as for people worshiping the devil I’m pretty sure that doesn’t happen, well not at my shows anyway.”
His shows?
So, he really is in a band. That’s pretty cool. “So you play in a band then?”
He nods. “Yeah, I’m the lead singer and my brother and a couple of lads from school make up the rest of us. We just started our world tour and we’ve had three gigs at Wembley Stadium over the last three nights. The day after tomorrow we move onto our US leg. It’s our first big tour where we’re the headline act.”
“Wow, Wembley, that’s usually where really big time acts play. Are you totally famous?”
He laughs and tilts his head. “Maybe just a little,” he says with a smirk.
“Well, I don’t listen to much music, but I listen to the radio in the car sometimes. What’s your band called?”
“Slayed.”
“Oh, I’ve never heard of you, but then again I never really know band names I just know songs,” I say and his eyes widen with a look of shock.
“Seriously, you’ve never heard of us?”
Man could you be any more arrogant?
I shake my head. “Nope, but like I said I never know band names, only songs.”
“Have you heard the song, Rapture?”
“Oh yeah, that’s the one that’s practically been on top of the charts for the last, I dunno six weeks or something crazy like that. Yeah, that’s a good song, do you know the band?”
He laughs again. “Yeah, I do. It’s us.”
“Oh, bullcrap, those guys would be really famous and the lead singer would definitely not be in my room chatting to me that’s for sure. Nice try buddy.”
He smirks and nods. “Okay, well why don’t you come to our final concert at Wembley tomorrow? Well, technically it’s tonight. You can be my guest of honour if you like. That can be your first act of spontaneity,” he says, while giving my knee a little squeeze.
I smile. “Okay, it’s a deal. I’m coming to your concert tonight.” Daddy would not approve, actually he’ll probably have a coronary, but if Joseph is right and I am dull and boring then maybe this little bit of excitement might bring me out of my shell a bit.
“Great, I’ll pick you up at seven,” he says and stands to leave.
I panic again and grab his hand. “Do you have to go?” He swallows a lump in this throat and bites his lip. “I mean could you stay here, just to keep me company until I fall asleep? Then you can leave if you want to. It’s just, I haven’t stopped crying since I got here and then you came in and I haven’t cried since. I don’t want to cry again and for some reason you keep me from going, off my rocker,” I say repeating his words and making him laugh. He grips my hand a little tighter sending a shiver up my spine. “Please?”
“Okay, but only until you fall asleep.” I nod, stand up and walk with him hand in hand to the king sized bed. I lay down and he hesitates for a second, but eventually lays down next to me.
“So I know why you’re here, but if your relationship with your boyfriend was that great, shouldn’t you be out fighting for it or something?” he asks breaking the silence.
I shake my head. “I guess I’m more upset at the fact that I’ve always lived a certain way. I’ve been raised with the belief that I’m supposed to marry into social status and end up a socialite like my mother, and that can’t happen now that Joseph has ended things. I suppose I’m mourning the loss of the life I was raised to have and now I feel like I don’t belong anywhere and I have nothing to show for myself,” I admit.
“Well to me it sounds like you’re not so upset by the loss of Joseph, but by the loss of the life you were meant to have?”
I nod in agreement. “Yeah, I think you’re right. Daddy always taught me that being socially accepted and marrying into money and status was one of the most important things I could do for the family. I guess I’m just a failure at everything.”
“I think that you need to burst out of the social bubble your ‘daddy’ has placed you in and live a little, you’re only young once and to me it sounds like you haven’t truly lived,” he says.
I nod and bite my bo
ttom lip. I know he’s right. “I don’t know how to do anything for myself. I’ve always had everything handed to me on a silver platter. I don’t know how to be any different?” I admit and he exhales and shakes his head.
“Well, I’m going to break you out of that mold. I think it’s sad that someone like you hasn’t experienced anything other than social luncheons and high society living. There’s a whole world out there waiting just for you. You need to take steps in the right direction and take a chance on living life a little differently. The world isn’t that scary, plus there’s a whole other set of people out there, not just high-class pompous gits. There’s real people—”
“People like you?” I interrupt.
He chuckles. “Yeah, people like me, but others too. Maybe this is a new start for you? Maybe you can start to break out of the cocoon you’re in and start to live in the real world,” he says.
I nod and exhale, he’s making sense. I know there are other types of people out there, it’s just I’ve never met any of them, until now that is.
“So what type of person are you then?” I ask curiously.
He chuckles and rolls on his side facing me. “Me? Well, I’m just your normal guy, who’s living it up as best he can. My childhood was so different to yours. My dad didn’t look after us very well, my family were poor and my dad wasn’t a very good example. Let’s just say I’m glad I don’t take after him,” he says with a slight frown.
I can’t imagine being poor, I know that sounds shallow, but being wealthy is all I know.
“So where did you grow up?” I ask.
“Croydon. My mum still lives in our childhood home. I try to visit her as often as I can, but it’s hard with the band and all,” he says and I nod.
“So do you like playing music?”
He smiles brightly, his eyes sparkling in such a way it makes my panties wet instantly, which then makes me clench my thighs together. He really is gorgeous, even in my slightly drunken state.
“I don’t like music, I live for it. Not a day goes by where music isn’t a part of me. I was born to be a musician,” he says as his smile reaches his ears.
I can’t help but smile with him. “So it’s a real passion then?”
He shakes his head. “No, it’s not a passion, it’s a part of me. I swear my molecules are music notes, music flows through my veins and I live and breathe it. It’s hard to explain, but I couldn’t live without it,” he says with so much passion that I can feel the music flowing from his pores.
I wish I was passionate about something. I wish I had something to live for.
“That’s so amazing that you have something in your life like that.”
He smiles. “Yeah, but don’t worry, I have a feeling about you. I think you’re going to love my music just as much as I do,” he says winking at me.
“What makes you say that?”
“Because everyone loves my music.” He laughs at his own arrogance.
“Seriously? You’re actually that up yourself?” I joke.
He smirks and shrugs. “Wait till you hear me at the concert tomorrow, then you’ll understand,” he says as his eyes look into mine.
My breath catches and it’s only a few seconds later that I realise I’ve stopped breathing. I take in a deep breath and he starts to chuckle.
“What?” I ask defensively furrowing my eyebrows at him.
“Oh nothing, you’re pretty adorable actually.”
I open my eyes wide and stare at him, he looks back at me in all seriousness and smiles.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that, but I think you don’t give yourself enough credit. Hang out with me for a while and I’ll help you come out of your shell. I can show you a good time and what it means to have fun, real fun, not luncheons and afternoon tea type fun. But the type of fun where you can let your hair down and just be you for a while, not the person your parents want you to be.”
I always knew there was a different way to live my life, the way normal people live it. But I never thought I’d ever get the chance to try it out for myself.
“Okay, deal. I’ll come along tomorrow, it’ll be my first ever rock concert and my first time seeing how the normal people live.”
He chuckles. “Well, I’m not sure the people you’ll be hanging around can be classed as ‘normal’, but they’re definitely different to the people you’re used to.”
“Well, maybe it’ll do me good to see the world through a different set of eyes. You seem nice enough, staying with a drunk girl you only just met and trying to help her out. If your kind of people are all as nice as you, then maybe this won’t be so difficult after all?”
“See already stepping out of your comfort zone. I don’t know much about you, but I can tell this is a big deal. And I think you’re adorable, so I wanna help you out, but on one condition?”
I purse my lips. “Okay?”
“No more crying? That shit freaks me out and no more vodka tonight as it is you’re probably going to be really hung over tomorrow.” He chuckles to himself.
I nod and smile. Something about him puts me at ease. All the emotion of the night prior to this moment was weighing me down, but in the space of half an hour this stranger has come into my life and made me look at things a little differently.
“Okay, well I have a really big day tomorrow and it’s getting late so I’m gonna let you get some sleep,” he says and rolls onto his back.
“Okay, thanks for the chat, and thanks for staying. I know you didn’t have to and it says a lot about you as a person, that you’re willing to keep me company until I fall asleep.”
“Well, I couldn’t leave you even if I wanted to. I can’t risk you starting to bawl your eyes out again and keeping us all awake.”
“Yeah, sorry about that,” I say as I smile at him.
“It’s okay, I got you to stop crying, but now you need to rest those beautiful eyes of yours.”
I blush, nodding my head slightly. “Okay, thanks again. Thanks for staying, you can leave when I fall asleep if you want to.”
He smiles at me and nods. “Goodnight, Daddy’s girl,” he jokes.
I laugh. “Goodnight wannabe rock God,” I reply.
He chuckles and I take one last look at him before I close my eyes. He starts to hum quietly the sound soothes me and I instantly relax. We both lie on our backs, our bodies not touching in any way, but there’s a pulse, like a wave of energy surging between us like a magnet. I can feel his pull and at this moment, I know this might be the start of something risky, something foreign and unknown, but either way, I sure do like it.
BANG, BANG, BANG.
I sit bolt upright as someone pounds loudly on my door. I look over to the other side of the bed and the God from last night is still sound asleep.
I thought he would’ve left after I fell asleep?
My head’s pounding and I feel a little queasy. I don’t remember much of last night, but I do remember falling asleep to the sound of him humming a tune. I get up and notice the empty bottle of vodka on the lounge, just looking at it makes me want to hurl. I make my way to the door and open it to three guys, all muscular with tattoos covering their arms just standing there gawking at me. They look me up and down and then scrunch up their faces.
Oh, seriously, I don’t look that bad do I?
I frown and rub my eyes as they all push past me and into my suite.
“Hey!” I call out as they walk past.
“Sladenator wake up, I know you’re only twenty-eight and will fuck anything with a tight pussy, but you must’ve been off your face last night to shack up with this one,” the blond guy states loudly.
My mouth drops open. I’m stunned into silence. I’m standing right here buddy!
He jumps onto the bed and the God slowly wakes up. It only just occurs to me that I spilled my guts and then slept in the same bed as him and I still don’t know his name.
Wow, that’s a new low for me!
“What the hell guys?” th
e God says as they all crowd around. One guy who actually looks really similar to him starts to slap him across the face.
“Fuck off bro,” he says and they all laugh.
“Uh-hum,” I clear my throat and they all look around.
He looks at me and smiles brightly. “Hi,” the God’s smooth voice teases.
I bite my bottom lip and wrap my arms around myself. “Hi,” I purr as the other guys look at the God then back at me, eyebrows squished together and frowning.
“Seriously dude, I know you’re desperate, but seriously?” the blond guy questions.
“Shut up, Dingo,” the God berates while he slowly sits up in bed and the guys all turn their attention back to me. I stand there feeling very hung over, very tired and extremely insecure. All these hot pieces of man candy standing right front of me and looking at me like I’m intruding and don’t belong.
News flash dickwads, you’re in my room!
“Okay, well thanks for stopping by,” I assert and they all laugh at me. The God gets up and stretches and I nearly combust, as they all slowly walk toward the front door. I feel that sense of panic rising again in that he’s leaving. I don’t remember much of last night, but I do know he was the perfect gentleman and didn’t try to take advantage of me in any way. He walks across to me and smiles, that panty dropping smile. He looks so good, better than I remembered and I have to clench my thighs together to stop the ache I feel for him.
Jesus Lia, get a hold of yourself!
“So, I’ll ah... see you tonight, then?” he asks as his band mates walk out of the room laughing, punching each other and acting like idiots.
“Tonight?”
“The concert, remember?” I nod and smile, for some reason I can’t look him in the eyes. He wasn’t last night, but for some reason today he’s slightly intimidating. I don’t know whether that’s because I’m sober now and I actually have some brain function, or whether it’s his ridiculously gorgeous features and those bulging biceps covered in ink that’s making me completely weak.
“Right, um... sure, why not?”
