Dedicated to all my fans who continuously support me and read my books time and time again, it means so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
First and foremost, I want to thank my mother Kaylene Osborn. Without her help, support and guidance, this series wouldn’t be as special to me as it is. And thank you for always being my biggest supporter, not only in my choice of career, but in life. Your love is unconditional and for that I thank you. I love you Mummy Poo’s. xoxo
To all of my amazing BETA readers, thank you so much for helping me with The Rock God Series. I hope you all enjoyed it.
To my family, especially my mum and Wendy for your continuous love, friendship and humour, without you ladies my life would be very dull and boring. So thank you for supporting me without question and for always being there.
To Lucy, thank you for being an undeniably amazing best friend and for helping me with all the ‘English slang,’ I love your guts girl and I am so glad you moved in across the road from my grandparents. Without you, Chris and little Jackson in my life, it would be very dull and boring. So I thank all of you for being the best friends a girl could ask for.
To Sophia and Tasmin – OMG you ladies are the reason I can continue writing. Without your help each day with promotion, etc., I would never be able to do what I love, so THANK YOU! I would be lost without you!
To Francessca, thank you so much for all your help with promotion and your continued friendship, love and support. I love you hard! And whenever you want a packet of Tim Tams they’re yours, lol.
To Liz, I know my thank yous to you are getting repetitive, but it just goes to show that you have been there from the start as a supporter and a great friend. You are always there when I need a shoulder, a laugh or a firm kick in the arse, so thank you. I can’t honestly imagine my writing career without you.
To my beautiful, playful and completely adorable pup, Bella. I love you so much and I know it’s soppy to say about a dog, but I am so grateful to have you in my life. I’ve noticed that when you’re at the groomers or away from home I have trouble writing and concentrating. I know it’s weird to say, but you help me to stay focused, and when I first started writing you were always there in my office, under my desk. With you just being there you make me feel loved and I guess seeing as I write romance, it’s always nice to know that you have unwavering love from those closest to you, even if they are ‘just a dog.’ You’re my best friend and I love you so much (anyone who follows my takeovers would know that). I love you Annabella Bananarama!
Last of all, I want to thank YOU, the reader. Your continued support with my writing career is both humbling and heart-warming. I love the readers so much and I honestly couldn’t keep going without the love and support you all show me each day. Thank you for believing in me and I hope I can keep you entertained for many, many years to come.
Stay tuned because The Violet Widow? The Shattered Heart Series #1 is on its way.
Thank you,
Much love,
K E Osborn
xoxo

About the Author – K E Osborn
I’m sitting here, holding Lia’s hand. It’s cold and she’s pale white. So I just sit and stare, at nothing – waiting. Waiting for what exactly, I don’t know. It’s not like she’s suddenly going to wake up. I stare at her beaut
iful face, so lifeless and still. I don’t know why I let go of her hand. I was holding her so tight even with all those people around. I should have held on – I should have fought harder. I failed, and now all I have before me is a motionless body of the woman I love beyond anything I’ve ever loved in my entire life. If I could be in her place, I would gladly swap.
They say the moment before you die your life flashes before your eyes. I wonder if anything like that happened to Lia? I wonder if she felt nothing but bliss before she flat-lined? I hope so, and I hope that wherever her soul is right now that she’s happy and not looking down on the mess that I am without her. I hold her hand tighter and rest my head on the gurney hiding my tears from the bastards all around me.
“Mr. Slade, if you don’t mind me saying so, you’ve been here for hours, her situation isn’t going to change anytime soon. Why don’t you get yourself something to eat and have a rest? You look exhausted and we don’t want you to end up being a patient instead of a visitor,” the nurse says and I glare at her.
“I’m not leaving her! I don’t care if I have to spend the rest of my life here. I’m not leaving her side. Not ever! You got that?” I reply loudly.
“Mr. Slade, you know eventually they will have to move her. Honestly you need to eat something, or at least drink something. There are people wanting to see you in the waiting room, maybe they could help you if you let them?”
I just want to punch her face in. “Cheer me up? You think I can be cheered up when my fiancé is lying here lifeless on this gurney? Who the fuck are you to tell me what to do? If you’re so fucking fantastic and know everything, then why can’t you bring her back to me, huh?” I yell.
She exhales loudly venting her frustration. “Sorry, Mr. Slade, I didn’t mean to offend you. I just—”
“You just what? Thought you could make this situation better? Well, you thought wrong. Now get the fuck out, I need some time alone with Lia,” I yell pointing toward the door. She shakes her head and puts down the chart and walks out of the room. Once she’s gone, I can’t hold back the river of tears that stream down my face. I look at the body in front of me and I’m angry. Angry at the fans, angry at the fucking driver of that stupid van, but most of all angry at myself for letting go of her hand. The anger burning deep inside me is bubbling to the surface and my breathing becomes rushed and shallow as I wipe the tears from my eyes. I can’t believe this has happened. She agreed to marry me. I told her that I loved her after being so afraid to admit it for all this time because I thought she’d leave me, and look what fucking happened. I tell her and she’s bloody left me.
“Fuuuuuuck!” I stand pushing my chair back abruptly and in my rage I look for anything to take the pain away. I pick up a glass and throw it against the wall and then make my way over to the bench and swipe everything off it onto the floor while screaming and cursing. I pace the room with my hands in my hair, my breathing is stuttered through my sobs and I feel fucking helpless. Nothing I can do will bring her back right now. Nothing. “I’m fucking useless,” I scream at Lia and nothing. She doesn’t flinch or move or anything. She’s just still. The nurse and two security guards rush in and I hold my hands up in an ‘I surrender’ motion as I exhale forcefully. The security guards start walking across to me. “Don’t you fucking dare try and take me out of this room. I won’t leave her,” I berate and they continue toward me.
“It’s all right guys, he can stay. He’s just hurting,” the nurse says and for the first time since I’ve been in this hell hole I’m actually grateful that she’s here. The guards walk back to the door and stand watching me while the nurse cleans up my mess. I pace around the floor and immediately feel bad for my outburst so I walk over and help pick up the things I’ve broken.
“I’m sorry, it’s just…” I pause as a full blown knot of something forms in my throat.
“Overwhelming?” she states and I wipe my hand over my cheeks wiping away my tears.
“Mr. Slade I completely understand how terrible this is and how much you must miss her, but I promise you that time heals everything,” she says with a reassuring smile. I exhale taking all the broken pieces of equipment with me and placing them on the bench.
“Thanks Shannon, and please call me Colt.” I stick out my hand for her to shake. She smiles, shakes it and then proceeds out of the room. I move over and sit back down next to Lia. I pick up her cold pale hand and kiss the back of it. Her icy cold skin makes me shiver and I stand and pull her blanket up to under her neck.
“There you go, baby, I don’t want you to catch a cold,” I say as I stroke her cheek.
“I love you so much, Lia. I can’t do this without you.” I lean down and kiss her forehead tenderly.
“Colt?” Hux says loudly, so I turn around and see him standing in the doorway.
“They said they wouldn’t let anyone else in?” I question as he walks toward me looking as somber as ever.
“The nurse said you could do with some company. We’re all here. All the boys and Anna and Sia. We’re all here for you, bro,” he says taking me into his arms and hugging me tightly. I don’t normally hug guys, not like this anyway, but I don’t care right now I just need some support. I rest my head on his shoulder and cry as he holds onto me tightly.
“Hey, don’t worry she’s a fighter Colt. She’s going to pull through this. She has to,” he says and I sniff and let go of him.
“She better,” I reply and wipe my nose with the back of my hand. “She’s bloody flat-lined three times, Hux. Three. Fucking. Times I thought she was gone. What if the next time it happens she doesn’t come back to me?” My gut wrenches at that thought. He pulls a seat up next to mine and we sit down.
“Mate, there’s not going to be a next time. The doc says she’s stable and we just have to wait it out for her to come out of the coma. And she will. Like I said, our Little Bean is a fighter and she’s just healing and when she’s better she will come back to us… to you,” he assures placing his arm around my shoulders, “and in the meantime I’m here for you. You’re my brother and I love you, even though sometimes I can be a dick. I love Lia too. We all do, so we’re all here. Mum’s on her way from England and so are Lia’s parents.”
I rest my head in my hands. “Great, it’s the first time Lia’s going to meet Mum and she can’t even talk to her,” I declare and Hux rubs my back.
Rutherford is going to kill me for letting this happen to his daughter!
“I don’t think Mum cares about that. All she cares about is you and how you’re coping. She doesn’t want either of us to fall off the wagon again,” Hux states and I can completely understand where he’s coming from because I want a hit so bad right now. Just one to ease some of the pain.
Lia’s fighting for her life and I wanna use. Great fucking fiancé I am!
“I can see your struggling bro, but you should see the support for Lia outside the hospital. Fans are leaving letters and candles, flowers, teddy bears; you really should come and see. It’s like a shrine to Lia out there man. The fans love her for bringing you and the band back together. The entire world is praying for her, Colt. So I know she’s going to be fine.”
I rest my head on the edge of her gurney and hold her hand. “You hear that, baby, everyone needs you to come back to us.” Hux rubs my back again.
“Thought you guys could do with coffee,” Johnny says. I look up to see him standing in the doorway with a tray holding three takeaway coffee cups. He half-smiles and walks in handing a cup to Hux and then one to me. I shake my head and Johnny and Hux both huff.
“The nurse said you were being stubborn, just drink the fucking coffee you martyr,” Johnny asserts and I exhale and take the cup from him. “How are you doing?” I look at him like he’s fucking stupid. “Sorry, I just wanna make sure that you’re not thinking of doing anything you’ll regret later.”
“Yeah thanks, I’m okay. A little on edge. I just want her to wake up. I can’t stand not knowing and the doctor said she’s had a s
erious operation and that she’s critical, but they’re not telling me everything. All I know is that she hit her head and her leg is broken. I can’t handle them telling me what’s wrong with her stomach. I know it’s bad, but I just don’t want to know yet. She’s cold man! She’s so fucking cold. That can’t be a good thing, right?” I ask needing some reassurance.
“Hey, I’m not a doctor, but if she’s cold get some more blankets from the nurses. How bad is her head injury?” Johnny asks.
“Well, bad enough for them to put her in a medically induced coma. They say the swelling in her brain is bad and they’re trying to get it down but it’s a slow process. They told me a whole bunch of other medical stuff that I don’t understand,” I reply and run my hand through my hair in frustration.
“Why don’t you take a break and come and get something to eat? You know Lia wouldn’t want you starving yourself,” Johnny says.
“I won’t leave her. Plus, I’m not hungry anyway,” I say as I stroke her cheek.
“Colt, c’mon bro, you need to eat something,” Hux says.
“Yeah, seriously mate—”
“Right, just stop with all this concern shit. The thought of food makes me feel physically sick so, please just stop and fuck off. You guys are distracting me from Lia. I need to be with her. She needs to know I’m here waiting for her. So just go,” I interrupt Johnny.
“Colt, c’mon be reason—”
“Just fuck off, both of you!” I yell and they both exhale loudly. Hux stands up and walks out with Johnny walking behind him. I take her hand in both of mine and kiss it repeatedly.
“Just know we’re here for you, Colt,” Johnny calls out as they reach the door, but I don’t turn around. I’ve already spent too much time talking to them when I should’ve been watching over her. I sit and play with her hair and kiss her as much as I can so she knows that I’m here. I tell her over and over again how much I love and cherish her and that she has to come back to me.
“So, when you’re ready to wake up we can talk about where you want to get married. I don’t care where, baby, as long as I’m with you I’ll be happy. So you just have a think about where you wanna go and don’t worry I’ll pay for it all, so nowhere is off limits,” I say and tuck her hair behind her ear.
